The "mystery" duck on Tenerife

4 March 2016

back from our stay in Tenerife and, thanks to Andy Butler, we can now reveal the identity of the "mystery" duck seen at the Tejina ponds in the north of Tenerife.   We knew it was not a Scaup and was not really right for a Tufted Duck and before leaving the island I had received an email from Andy to confirm the the ducks were two males and a female Ring-necked Ducks.  Andy also reported that they were American ducks and had been about for a little while.  Perhaps local experienced birder, Beneharo Rodriguez, may be able to offer further information and also update our enquiries about the black "magpie-like" bird seen on the Golf del Sur in Tenerife.
