Tuesday 9 November
Jenny needing to try out the new automatic so we took a short drive down to Rutland Water and back. Arriving at the entrance lane to Egleton we soon recorded Carrion Crow, Magpie and Wood Pigeon and as we approached the car park added House Sparrow, Jackdaw and Blackbird. And that was about it!
I did pop in to the Visitors Centre for a couple of minutes to make contact with a friend and noticed immediately how deserted was the lagoon. Not surprising having been told that the reservoir itself was almost two metres lower than expected at this time of the year. The end result would appear to be very few wildfowl about but good wader numbers on Lagoon 4. This water held a miserly two Mute Swan, single Great White Egret and eight Cormorant. To the right about a score of resting Lapwing and that was it. Departing to make our way back to Stamford we did add both Starling and Collared Dove and passing alongside the North Arm note a couple of landing Greylag Geese. My conclusion would suggest that a visit to Frampton Marsh might take precedence in the coming days!
