Workmans Lane, Warsash

Pied Wagtail Motacilla alba

Sunday 12 October

AN overcast day and very still so time to get out of the house for a figure-of-eight stroll round the Hook with Warsash Nature Reserve.  Starting at the top of Workmans Lane straight down to the end at the Solent shore noting Carrion Crows, Robin, Magpie, Blackbird, Woodpigeon and Blue Tit on the way.  The small pond at the end of the path held six Mallard and on the shore itself and no less than 141 Oystercatchers along with 30 Black-tailed Godwits and seven Curlew.  Just the two Little Egrets plus about twenty Black-headed and five Herring Gulls.

Reaching Chilling Head back up the path to Workmans Lane and observing  couple of Stonechats plus many more woodpigeons and the occasional Carrion Crow and magpie.

Then a complete walk to the far end of the horse field to join Hook Lane.  Entering the horse field a trio of Meadow Pipits and two dozen Starling feeding near the horses plus, eventually, at least ten Pied Wagtails.  At the donkey field paddock  Rook resting on a post plus the sight of many Carron Crows in the fields.  A very pleasant surprise to look up and see a pair of Barn Swallows passing over and at the far end, a trio of Skylarks and similar number of Linnets.

Once on Hook lane all very quiet as I made my way back to the car.
